You may arrive at the airport at any time. When you arrive at the Tribhuwan International airport, you will be welcomed by our representative. You will be privately transferred to the hotel for your check-in.

Today, our sightseeing tour commences from the holy temple of Hindu devotees, the Pashupatinath temple. The Pashupatinath Temple is a famous, sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Pashupatinath and is located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Sometimes, we can also see the cremation ceremony of the Hindus being performed at the river’s bank. Then we will move to Boudhanath, 8 km east from Kathmandu. The Boudhanath stupa's massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal. In the afternoon, we will then drive to Bhaktapur and explore the city’s architectural temples and shrines like the Lion Gate, the Golden Gate and the Palace of 55 Windows. Then we will head towards Nagarkot to see the mesmerizing sunrise and sunset along with spectacular views of the Himalayan ranges.

Your morning starts with an enthralling sunrise amidst the splendid mountain from the vantage point at Nagarkot. After breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu. On arrival, we shall continue with the sightseeing tour of the Patan Durbar Square. We will visit the Krishna Temple, the Patan Durbar with Royal bath and the Hiranya Varna Mahavir - a Buddhist Monastery. Then we will head to the Kathmandu Durbar Square – a historical palace of Nepal where we can see the Kumari Temple (Kumari is considered the living goddess of Nepal), Kasthamandap and many other old palaces and buildings that date back to the medieval times. Along with these palaces, the square also surrounds quadrangles, revealing courtyards and temples. The Kathmandu Durbar Square is known as the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square- a name derived from the statue of Hanuman, the monkey devotee of Lord Ram, at the entrance of the palace. The Kathmandu durbar square went through with extensive damage on the 2015 earthquake and many of the temples and buildings in the square were destroyed or received heavy damage. Reimbursement process and reconstruction work is underway. Eventually, we will move to Swayambhunath. Swayambhu is an ancient religious architecture atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley. For Tibetans and followers of Tibetan Buddhism, it is second only to Boudha.

The flight from Nepal to Lhasa (3660m/12004Ft) in Tibet is considered one of the most beautiful air routes in the world, as it provides sweeping views of Everest (8848m/2922ft), Mount Kanchenjunga (8536m/27998ft) and other Himalayan peaks. If traveling via mainland China, there are a wide variety of flights in addition to the world’s highest train route to reach Lhasa. Upon arrival, you will be received by our Tibetan guide at the airport/train station. After approximately 1.45 hours of driving, you will reach Lhasa. It is advisable to rest and take it easy for the remainder of the day due to Lhasa's altitude.

We will spend our day visiting several monasteries in Lhasa in the company of a guide and interpreter. One of these is the Sera Monastery, the best-preserved monastery in Tibet with its whitewashed walls and golden roofs. The Sera monastery is one of the "great three" Gelug University monasteries of Tibet, located 1.25 miles north of Lhasa and about 5 km north of the Jokhang. The other two are the Ganden Monastery and the Drepung Monastery. The origin of its name is attributed to the fact that the site where the monastery was built was surrounded by wild roses in bloom. Sera Monastery in Tibet and its counterpart in Mysore, India are noted for their debate sessions. After lunch, we will visit the Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, and the Jokhang Temple, the most sacred shrine in Tibet. Surrounding the Jokhang is the Bakhor - a maze of narrow cobbled streets that is the central market of Lhasa.

We will visit the Potala Palace in the morning. It is a palace that dominates the city of Lhasa. It is a spectacular building containing the private quarters of the Dalai Lama as well as numerous grand state rooms and many important chapels. There has been a Palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century, but the present Palace was constructed in the 17th century. The palace is named after Mount Potalaka, the mythical abode of the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara. Tradition has it that the three main hills of Lhasa represent the "Three Protectors of Tibet". Chokpori, just to the south of the Potala, is the soul-mountain of Vajrapani, Pongwari that of Manjushree, and Marpori, the hill on which the Potala stands, represents Avalokiteśvara. After lunch, we will visit the Drepung Monastery, which was founded in the 14th century. It used to be the largest monastery in the world with a population of around 10,000 monks. These days, however, the number has fallen to a hundred.

Our tour ends today! A representative from Escape Himalaya will take us to the airport for your flight back to Kathmandu.

The flight to Paro crosses the Himalayan Mountains, offering you spectacular views of the amazing peaks, including the sacred Jumolhari and the Jichu Drake Peaks in Bhutan. On arrival, you will be greeted by the guide and will be transferred to the hotel. After lunch, you will visit the Ta Dzong- once a fortified lookout tower that is now the National Museum. The museum has a wide assortment of ancient paintings, armors, philatelic display and “field of Buddhas”, which helps one to visualize while meditating. Next, we will visit the Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the country.

Today, you will hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, which is Bhutan’s most famous monastery. It is an absolutely breathtaking site, situated at 10,400 feet and perched on the edge of a steep cliff about 3,000 feet above the Paro Valley. Guru Rinpoche (a great spiritual master) is said to have flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. Lunch is served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up the mountain. After exploring the monastery, we will hike back down to the valley floor. This evening, you will be transferred to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan.

After breakfast, you will visit the Memorial Chorten (built in memory of the third King of Bhutan who reigned from 1952 to 1972), the Changangkha Monastery, the Nunnery temple, the School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the Painting School) and the Folk Heritage Museum. After a relaxing lunch, you will visit the traditional paper factory, the majestic Tashichhodzong, and the giant Buddha statue on a hill overlooking Thimphu which is reputed to be the largest Buddha Shakyamuni in the world. In the evening, you can stroll freely in Thimphu city and observe the lifestyle of the people.

The morning will be spent hiking to the Wangditse Monastery. It is a one-hour walk from the Radio Tower on a leveled trail amidst pine forests with great views of the northern Thimphu Valley. On the way, you will also have the opportunity to see Takins – a unique national animal that is found only in the Himalayas. After having explored the monastery, you will hike back to Thimphu town. After lunch, you will drive back to Paro. In the evening, you can tour the village in Paro to learn about daily life – perhaps you can visit a farmhouse or two for a cup of butter tea or an “ara”- a local wine produced by a brewery of wheat or rice.
