The Mera and the Island Peak Climbing via the Amphu Laptsa Pass presents an opportunity to go through two amazing peaks via one of the most spectacular passes in the country. The Mera Peak with its elevation of 6,420 meters and the Island Peak rising to an altitude of 6,189 meters put forth a chance to travelers of ascending two peaks set close together. Geographically divided by a gigantic peak series that separates the Khumbu from the Hongu valleys, the Mera Peak and the Island Peak are shrouded in amazing views and a path that is adorned with beautiful cerulean snow. Mera and Island Peak Climbing also provides a chance to traverse the remote and striking Amphu Labtsa Pass (5,780m). Specifically, Mera Peak Climbing offers amazing views of the Langtang region in the west from Kangchenjunga. Island Peak is dwarfed by the massive Lhotse Face to the north.
Starting our Mera and Island Peaks Climbing, we will fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and then start the trek. Walking ahead from Chutok La Pass, we will trek to Pangkong and go across Col Khari La. En-route, we will also pass all the way through rock-strewn settings. Moreover, we will walk by lovely meadows and woodlands filled with blue Himalayan pines and rhododendron trees to get to Khothey. With proper adaptation at Tangnag, we will go up next to the side moraine of the Dig Glacier and arrive at Khare from where we will trek to Mera Base Camp. From the base camp, walking further on to the High Camp, we will be presented with wonderful views of massive mountains like Chamlang (7290m), Baruntse (7220m), Everest (8848m), Makalu (8475m) and Lhotse (8501m) among many others. You will experience one of the highlights of expedition- we will climb to the summit of the Mera Peak.
Before climbing the Island Peak, we will walk ahead and go across the Amphu Labtsa (5,780m) to reach the Island Peak Base Camp (5,000m) passing along a glacier with a 40° angled slope. With another acclimatization day, we will trek to the Island Peak High Camp (5,600m), from where we will climb the Island Peak lying 6189m high. Ascending the rock gorge to get to an edge line, we will reach at the muzzle of the glacier and experience one of the unforgettable moments of standing at the peak overlooking the surrounding of periwinkle snow.
