    Overview

Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek is the most amazing combined trip that lets you experience a wonderful adventure in the Everest region. Island Peak (6,189m), also renowned as Imja Tse, is one of the most popular climbing peaks in the region, with an inspiring and extremely glaciated West Face towering from the Lhotse Glacier. Before scaling to Island Peak, you will also trek to the foot of the highest peak on Earth- Mount Everest (8848m). From the summit of Island Peak, the world’s largest ice walls and stunning views of Ama Dablam and Makalu among many other peaks will truly surprise you and are captivating in their opal quintessence.

Island Peak Climbing begins as we fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and walk along the trail passing the large settlement of Chaurikharka village as well as wooded regions and vegetated acreages. The region is brimming with alpine woods and lush verdant forests that envelope the terrain in their natural emerald canopy. We will also walk along the trail passing through the meeting point of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi Rivers to the popular Sherpa village and the center of the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar. During the acclimatization day, we will experience a short hike to the Everest View Hotel which presents splendid sceneries of Everest, Ama Dablam, and some other mountain peaks.

Passing by the destinations and dainty settlements like Dole and Machhermo, we will witness the emergence of a series of different Gokyo Lakes in the mountains which present a cerulean treasure-like quiddity to the travelers. They possess within them the most mesmerizing effect, their waters glimmering in the snowy enclosure of the Himalayas. The lakes also have a very interesting history and lore behind their origins and are considered holy by the Hindu people. Walking to Gokyo Ri (5360m), the stunning views of mountain peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho-Oyu among many others will captivate you. Then, we will make our way to Everest Base Camp (5364m) -the foot of Mount Everest, which rewards you with awesome landscapes blanketed by confetti-like ivory snow and slated terra firma the shades of frozen dragon fire. We will also walk to Kala Pathar (5545m) for splendid sunrise views over the gigantic Himalayas. Then, we will climb to the summit of Island Peak Base Camp, walking on a twisting path beneath the southern face of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier before reaching it.

Everest Base Camp Trek and Island Peak Climbing designed by Escape Himalaya will give you a lifetime experience of climbing up the most beautiful and adventurous summit. You will also need to learn peak climbing skills and use climbing equipment such as ice axes, crampons, harnesses, ascenders, and ropes. You will be able to do so from our experienced guides before climbing. The Island Peak Climbing package designed by Escape Himalaya is one of the most thrilling peak-climbing packages in Nepal that bestows an exciting sightseeing experience. Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11283ft), Duration: 6 hours

Following the Dudh Koshi River, we will be ascending through Himalayan pine and cedar forests to the celebrated village of Namche Bazaar. The village of Namche is a historic trading post where Nepalese and Tibetan traders exchanged salt, dried meat, and textiles in ancient times. Besides being a splendid destination to shop for traditional crafts, Namche also remains the central trading post in the Khumbu that attracts Himalayan and lowland merchants.  You will spend two days at Namche for acclimatization, visit local markets, and spend time with your team. On the hike to Namche, we can capture our first glimpses of Everest and its neighboring peaks.

Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Namche Bazaar, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

    5Day 05

Namche Bazaar to Everest View Hotel - Namche

This day is especially sectioned for acclimatization. The monastery is the spiritual center of the Khumbu. The climb is lengthy but is more than adequately compensated by gorgeous views of Mount Ama Dablam and on clear days, views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks. Tengboche is located at the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and the Imja River and is surrounded by ridges covered in alpine woods. Views of the Danphe birds can also be seen in the forests.

Perhaps today is the most interesting trekking because you will not lose altitude like on other days. You can also enjoy views of Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Lhotse & many other peaks along the way. The route continues through pastures to Dingboche, known as the 'summer valley'. At Dingboche, you can see a kilometer-long wall built to protect the village’s crops. Mani Stone walls also line the trail.

Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Dingboche, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

    8Day 08

Dingboche to Nagerjun (5100m/16728ft) and return Dingboche, Duration: 6 Hours

This would be your second acclimatization day that requires about 6 hours of trekking to an altitude of 5100 meters. After breakfast, you will ascend to Nagerjun (5100m), a hill located on the flanks of the Chhukung valley directly above Dingboche. The main aim is to climb high and sleep low. The footpath becomes steep at times, resulting in a physically strenuous day.  Ascending the hill could take up to 5 hours at altitude. From this altitude, there are good views of the Lobuche East (6119m), the Lobuche West (6145m), the Taboche Peak (6367m), Thamserku (6608m), the Kangtega (6685m) and the Ama Dablam (6856m). On a clear day, you could even see Mount Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest mountain, including great views of the Pheriche Valley.  After a short rest, you will then start the descent back to Dingboche and the walk at altitude takes about 2 hours.  After lunch, we can take a well-deserved rest, as afternoon temperatures could drop rapidly as the sun sets over the mountain tops. You will also spend a second night in Dingboche.

Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Dingboche, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

    9Day 09

Dingboche to Lobuche (4910m/16105ft), Duration: 5 Hours

This post is staffed by western volunteer doctors and supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association, which offers treatment and consultation to trekkers. Continuing up the valley, we will be gaining altitude. We will come out of the valley to descend to the yak pastures of Lobuche.

Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Lobuche, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Everest and the surrounding peaks. After a couple of hours, we will get to Gorekshep, and continue our journey to the Everest Base Camp.  There is not much elevation gain, but there are a lot of ups and downs and, combined with altitude, this can be an exhausting trek - but the journey is worth it. After approximately 3 hrs of hiking, you will arrive at the base camp and can enjoy a magnificent view of the Khumbu glacier and icefall, from where the Everest expedition begins. Then we will go back to Gorakshep.

Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Gorakshep, breakfast, lunch and dinner included

Today marks the pinnacle of our trek as we aim to reach the summit of Island Peak, situated at an altitude of 6,189 meters.

Following the summit experience, we will descend to base camp and proceed back to Chhukung.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

    15Day 15

      Gorgeous Views!

Excellent trekking experience with Escape Himalaya to Kala Patthar! Everything went seamlessly, and my guide ensured we were safe and comfortable at all times, even in the high altitude. Will definitely choose EH again when I am back in Nepal for more hiking! The country is so beautiful and just has so much to offer!

Amazing Manaslu Circuit with Phurba & Ram

Just back from a fantastic 2 week trek around the Manaslu Circuit including Larke Pass (5100m). The weather was perfect and the views were outstanding!!

Our guide Phurba Sherpa was excellent. Super knowledgeable and helpful at all times and always made sure we had a fantastic trip.

Our porter, Ram Badhadur Magar was also a rockstar. He was super professional and always arrived before us every day. He was also super friendly and helpful too.

Thanks to Phurba, Ram for always smiling and for a fantastic trip. Would highly recommend them to anyone interested in trekking in Nepal

      Everest base camp trek - Mar-Apr 2024

My 60 year old pals set out in hope on this adventure. In late March. We had our guide Raj Kumar and two porterd Janak and Ramesh. All three were stars. We changed our schedule - no problem. I would not have made it without Raj. I cannot thank him enough. Janak often took my back pack on steep climbs where I was struggling. This is a truly majestic and spiritual trek and I would encourage using Escape Himalaya and request this team of guide and porters if you want to give yourself the best chance of finishing and making best use of your time.

Q1. Is a visa required for entry into Nepal?

Yes, the majority of travelers to Nepal will need a visa. You can acquire one upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at land border crossings. Alternatively, you have the option to apply for a visa beforehand at a Nepalese embassy or consulate in your home country.

Q2. Will there be someone to pick me up at the airport when I arrive?

Yes, Escape Himalaya offers airport pickup services for our clients. We recognize the significance of a seamless arrival and strive to guarantee a trouble-free beginning to your journey. When you reserve a trek or tour with us, you can coordinate with our team to schedule a representative to greet you at the airport upon your arrival.

Look for our staff member holding a signboard bearing your name or the company's name for easy recognition. Providing us with your flight details ahead of time, including your flight number and estimated arrival time, enables us to make suitable arrangements for your pickup.

Q3. As a solo traveler, are you able to join a group for your journey?

Certainly! As a solo traveler, you're welcome to join one of the groups organized by Escape Himalaya. We frequently arrange group treks and tours that cater to individuals traveling alone. Joining a group not only allows you to meet other travelers but also offers the opportunity to share experiences and potentially lower costs.

When reaching out to Escape Himalaya, simply inform us that you're a solo traveler interested in joining a group. We'll then provide details about available group departures and assist you in selecting a trek or tour that aligns with your preferences and travel dates.

Q4. What are the types of hotel you use in Kathmandu?

Generally, we use the best available 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star category hotels for travelers' accommodation in Kathmandu. Meanwhile, travelers can upgrade or prolong accommodation with us as required.

The costs to prolong or upgrade hotel accommodation in Kathmandu may vary based on preferred hotel rates.

Q5. Would it be possible for me to upgrade my accommodation to a luxury hotel in Kathmandu?

Certainly! You have the option to upgrade your accommodation to a luxury hotel in Kathmandu. If you wish to elevate your stay from the standard 3-star hotel provided by Escape Himalaya, simply let us know, and we can arrange the upgrade for you. However, please bear in mind that availability and pricing for luxury hotels may fluctuate based on the hotel and the timing of your visit.

Q6. Which destinations are commonly favored by tourists visiting Nepal?

Nepal boasts breathtaking natural landscapes and a profound cultural legacy. Among the sought-after tourist spots are Kathmandu (the capital), Pokhara, Chitwan National Park, Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha), Bhaktapur, as well as the renowned trekking regions of Annapurna, Everest, Langtang, Manaslu, and Upper Mustang.

Q7. Do we need a visa before coming to Nepal?

Yes, most travelers need a visa to enter Nepal. However, the process for obtaining a visa depends on your nationality. You can either obtain a visa from the diplomatic consulate office of Nepal in your respective country or apply for an “On Arrival” visa at the entry checkpoints of Nepal. Please click this link to get more information on ways to issue a tourist visa. Also please see the visa fee here below:

On-Arrival Visa Fee at Entry Points of Nepal:

    • 15 Days – 30 USD
    • 30 Days – 50 USD
    • 90 Days – 125 USD

Indian nationals do not need to have a visa to enter Nepal however they need to bring an official document such as a Passport or Election card (issued by the Election Commission) that proves their identity.

Q8. Which one is better: Group or Solo (private) trek?

Escape Himalaya offers both group and solo trek to Everest Base Camp. However, to choose to join which tour style completely depends upon the traveler itself.

If you are happy to meet people from other parts of the world and join in an experience of a lifetime with fellow travelers, then going for a group trek is also best.

However, if you prefer freedom and flexibility, trekking solo (private) will give you the independence to set your own pace and choose your itinerary. You will have the flexibility to make spontaneous decisions. You will not be bound by a group schedule and choose to lead your journey as you wish and even modify the plan if needed.
